Co-Creating the Future of Sustainable Logistics

Yamato’s home delivery service, known as ‘Takkyubin’ in Japan, celebrates 50 years in 2026. Since 2018, Yamato has partnered with Fujitsu to participate in the Japanese government’s Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP), a national initiative led by the Cabinet Office.

United by a shared vision for sustainable logistics, the two companies co-developed a smart logistics data platform that integrates logistics and commercial flow. To address industry-wide challenges like the “2024 Problem”1 and CO₂ reduction, Yamato founded Sustainable Shared Transport Inc. (SST) in May 2024 to turn SIP outcomes into real-world solutions. SST launched a shared delivery system using Fujitsu Unified Logistics in February 2025.

✅ Challenge: Small, frequent B2B shipments reduce load efficiency, strain drivers, and raise CO₂ emissions—threatening logistics sustainability.

✅ Solution: SST(Sustainable Shared Transport Inc.) created an open platform for efficient pallet transport, supported by real-time data integration to balance supply and demand.

✅ Outcome: Even small loads are now shipped more cost-effectively, lowering overall logistics expenses.

1. The “2024 Problem” refers to new labor regulations in Japan that limit truck drivers’ annual overtime to 960 hours. This domestic reform is expected to reduce transport capacity and disrupt logistics operations.
